{"id":1080,"date":"2015-10-22T10:15:11","date_gmt":"2015-10-21T23:15:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bnmme.com.au\/?p=1080"},"modified":"2015-10-22T10:15:11","modified_gmt":"2015-10-21T23:15:11","slug":"south32-digs-in-against-volatile-exchange-rates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yinghuiinternational.com\/index.php\/2015\/10\/22\/south32-digs-in-against-volatile-exchange-rates\/","title":{"rendered":"South32 digs in against volatile exchange rates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bnmme.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/south-32-logo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bnmme.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/south-32-logo.jpg\" alt=\"south-32-logo\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1081\" data-wp-pid=\"1081\" \/><\/a>South32 has released its Quarterly Report for September, showing a significant reduction in financial leases as the Australian dollar has depreciated against the US dollar.<\/p>\n<p>After falling to 10.3 per cent on the ASX in June earlier this year, South32 has managed to reduce its net debt from US$206 million to US$196 million during the September 2015 quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Capital expenditure rates for South32 are also expected to decline further than the previously forecast nine per cent drop, reflecting the weaknesses of the average exchange rates. <\/p>\n<p>According to South32 CEO Graham Kerr, \u201c<strong>Our high quality and low-cost assets, motivated workforce and strong balance sheet remain a key point of differentiation.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Production has increased overall within the <strong>alumina sectors<\/strong>, leading South32 to predict a saleable production increase of 3 per cent to 3.95 million tonnes<\/p>\n<p><strong>Manganese ore production<\/strong> also saw an increase during the quarter, maintaining competitiveness and sustainability throughout the cycle.<\/p>\n<p>Declines of three to four per cent were witnessed in both <strong>coal sections<\/strong> as coal production in the 2016 financial year is forecast to decline by per seven cent to 31.95 million tonnes.<\/p>\n<p>By reducing costs and de-capitalising the business, South32\u2019s production increases may provide a temporary relief amidst the volatile exchange rate and the declining profitability in mining operations. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>South32 has released its Quarterly Report for September, showing a significant reduction in financial leases as the Australian dollar has depreciated against the US dollar.
