{"id":2587,"date":"2017-12-12T09:29:04","date_gmt":"2017-12-11T22:29:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/yinghuiinternational.com\/?p=2587"},"modified":"2018-01-30T09:32:03","modified_gmt":"2018-01-29T22:32:03","slug":"rio-tinto-launches-far-north-queensland-recruitment-drive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yinghuiinternational.com\/index.php\/2017\/12\/12\/rio-tinto-launches-far-north-queensland-recruitment-drive\/","title":{"rendered":"Rio Tinto launches Far North Queensland recruitment drive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rio Tinto is seeking more than 100 workers\u00a0for a variety of roles at its bauxite operations in Far North Queensland.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0recruitment drive has been launched for positions at <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Rio\u2019s existing Weipa mines at Andoon and East Weipa and the Amrun project south of the Embley River between Weipa and Aurukun.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Rio is aiming to build a workforce in the region capable of supporting the <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">developing site at Amrun<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The Amrun project includes a range of infrastructure to support mining, including a processing plant and port near Boyd Bay, a dam, roads and tailings storage facility. A ferry terminal on Hey River will transport workers from Weipa to the mine.<\/p>\n<p>Rio is seeking workers to fill positions for electrical and instrumentation technicians, operators, plant fitters and in maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>The company said some Amrun roles would start immediately, while others would gradually take effect between 2018 and 2019. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Rio is aiming to ship first bauxite from Amrun during the first quarter of 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Rio Tinto Weipa Operations general manager Daniel van der Westhuizen said it was exciting for the company to offer so many roles that would ultimately support the bauxite operations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an exciting time for our people, business and community with Amrun becoming a part of a strong and sustainable future for the region,\u201d van der Westhuizen said.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Weipa will remain the residential base for the three mines in the region<\/span>, with Andoom and East Weipa employees returning home after every shift, according to the miner.<\/p>\n<p>Rio Tinto East Weipa superintendent and future Amrun employee Scott Tass said: \u201cA couple of years ago when I heard the Amrun project was going ahead, I knew I had to start looking at making my way back to Weipa because I wanted to be part of it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAside from moving the first bit of ore, I\u2019m most looking forward to the facilities there.
